Vital Amenities
Long Rock Beach, the western edge of sands that stretch to Marazion is a safe family beach with sand and pebbles. Favoured with Penzance locals as it is the most easily accessible stretch of sandy beach from town. Swimming here is particularly safe as it takes a lot of walking to get into even waist deep water. It is also a popular spot for windsurfing kite-surfing, jet skiing and sailing. Marazion lifeguards keep en eye on the eastern end of the beach during the summer months.
With spectacular views to St Michaels Mount and the bay beyond, Mounts Bay, which includes Long Rock was recently voted one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Please see map for Long Rock Beach location.
There is a wonderful beach dedicated to dog owners, just beyond Morrison’s supermarket as you go away from Penzance towards the ‘mainland’. It is not signposted (turn right at the Enterprise car hire depot) but it has free parking.
You can walk dogs on other beaches before 7.00am and after 7.00pm.
There is a 24 hour Tesco at the bottom of the hill in Gulval, about 3 minutes drive away.
There is also a Morrisons’ a mile further on, which has an excellent fresh, locally sourced fish counter.
The apartment is a perfect base from which to explore. Gulval is just a few hundred yards down the hill, from the Manor, and has a post office and limited general store. The local pub, the Coldstreamer Inn, opposite the church, serves an interesting menu based on local produce.
Penzance is an ideal centre from which to explore the west of Cornwall and never more than 10 miles from the other popular towns, top beaches and the "hidden" corners of the peninsula.
From the grand entrance and long sweeping drive of Kenegie Manor you will see the fairytale St Michael's Mount Castle. Located just 2 miles from the Manor is a helicopter port where you can experience a day trip to the beautiful Isles of Scilly. Penzance, Land's End, and the picturesque fishing villages of St Ives, Mousehole and Newlyn are all close at hand. St Ives is a very popular Cornish resort town and is approximately 6 miles away and offers the world famous Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth museum. The beautiful sandy and blue flag acclaimed beaches of Sennen and Gwithian, Hayle are both also within a short distance of the property. The area abounds with Theme Parks and holiday attractions such as Flambards, The Eden Project, Minack 'open air' Theatre and Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary.
